| I changed the IP of my JACE NP and since its embedded, I can't tell what the IP is. Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks, Joe |
| If you have access to your pc that you made the changes from: Look in nre/user under your release directory. You should find a file called ipchanges.txt. This records your ip changes so you see what you did.
If you do not have access to this file: You may need to use an IP network analyser. You can download a free packet analyser from http://winpcap.polito.it This should see all network packets on your network, whatever subnet you are using. So a good idea is to connect your laptop directly to the NP with a crossover cable to avoid seeing packets from other devices, then start the analyser, then start the NP. You should see the NP sending out messages after it starts up. |
| Cool. I didn't need to download the analyzer. I found the ipchanges.txt file on my laptop and it told me what I changed it to.
Thanks, Joe |
| You can use a null modem cable to connect to the serial port, and you need to get a jumper and put it on two of the pins right next to the serial port... I forget which two :), I believe it is the two further from the port (there is a bank of four pins, arranged two by two).
then you open hyperterminal and connect at I believe 9600,8,n,1 and power up the jace. The jeode OS will flash it's boot messages past you, and in that will be the ip address. |
| Oops, thought you were talking about a Jace 5, never mind the last post... |
| If you did the IP change with the AdminTool, the new ipchanges.txt file is created. If you did the change using NetMeeting. It may be hopeless. |
| It's not hopeless, you'd still be able to get it by using a sniffer. Reboot the jace, and after boot you should get some SMB broadcast activity from the jace as it searches out other computers. It should tell you the IP. |
| I download a analyzer, but this message apeer: "wpcap.dll was not foud". How can I resolve this problem?
Thanks,

| upaiva, see www.winpcap.org/windump/misc/faq.htm#Q-13 |
| For future reference (or if anyone else has this problem), if you know the subnet and can physically access the board, you can set your PC to an IP address on the subnet, connect directly to the Jace with a crossover cable and ping the broadcast address (eg, subnet is 192.168.1.0/24, ping 192.168.1.255) and you should see a response from the Jace with the IP address. |
| Thanks Lee, my problem did resolve.
I usually access the device with the crossover, but many time I don't know the ip adress and the subnet mask because I receive this devices of other people from the divers places.
Thanks |
| I changed the IP settings of my JACE-6. I can see the changed IP in the file ipchanges.txt.
But, I am not able to ping the JACE from cmd prompt or login from the workbench.
When i try to use the serial shell, it connects to the JACE. But dosent give me any menu & dosent ask me for a login/password.
the hyperterminal seems to hang in between.
Can someone suggest me a way to connect to the JACE...
Thanks,
